Sweet potato fries are the perfect side dish to burgers, salads, soups, you name it. You can bake these in the oven so no need for a deep frier. This recipe is a great addition to a meal or a great snack.

How to make crispy sweet potato fries?

I always bake my sweet potato fries to get them nice and crispy without having to use too much oil. I bake them at a high heat, 425° F, so they can get that crispy exterior.

You want to slice your sweet potato fries in similar size strips. This helps everything cook at the same time. You can peel your potatoes first or leave the skin on. I typically leave the skin on to make it quicker, but that is up to you.

Once they are sliced, add them to a baking sheet and add oil and seasoning. You can toss the sweet potatoes in the oil right on the pan. Make sure they are in a single flat layer before placing them in the over.

How long to bake sweet potato fries?

Depending on the size of the fries it takes between 25-35 minutes for the sweet potato fries to bake. At the 15 minute mark, take out the pan and give them a toss to help crisp up all the sides and make sure everything is cooking evenly. Sometimes the fires in the edges of the pan cook faster and you don’t want anything to burn.

Do you need to soak sweet potato fries?

Some people soak sweet potatoes before baking them. This can pull out some of the starch from them potatoes. This is suppose to get the fries crispier. I have done it with soaking and without and I didn’t notice much of a difference. That is why I tend to skip this step to make it quicker.

If you want to try soaking them, just place your sliced sweet potatoes in cold water and let them soak for about 20-30 minutes. Make sure to dry them on a towel afterwards before adding oil and baking.

How to season sweet potato fries?

All you really need to season your fries are a little bit of salt. If you want to add more flavor I love adding garlic powder and smoked paprika, that is what I use in this recipe. If you want spicy you can add some cayenne pepper. If you want herby you can add some Italian seasoning and garlic powder.

Can you store sweet potato fries?

Sweet potatoes fries are best when the are freshly baked, but if you made too many and want to save them you can do that too. Just place the fries in an airtight container in the refrigerator. To heat them up add them to a baking sheet and throw them in the oven for 8-10 minutes at 400° F. This will warm them up and give them a little bit of crispness back.

Are sweet potato fries gluten free?

Yes, there is no gluten containing product in this sweet potato fry recipe. Some fry recipes may have a breaded coating, but this recipe does not.

Dips for Sweet Potato Fries

Now that you have made your sweet potato fries, you may be wondering what to dip them in. You can use any dip you would typically use for fries or mix it up. Here are a few of my favorite sweet potato fry dips.

Ketchup: A simple classic.

Sriracha Mayo: Personally I love sriracha mayo. Mix a little sriracha with mayo and you have a dip!

Cinnamon Sugar: Some people like to lean into the “sweet” part of the sweet potato fries and dip them in cinnamon sugar. Mix a little cinnamon and a little sugar with melted butter.

Ranch: Any type of ranch dip is also a go-to classic.
