The Best Candida Diet Recipes

Jump to RecipeGrain bowl with tofu, egg, and veggies.

If you are thinking of going on a candida diet or eating healthier for your gut, here are a few of my favorite recipes that are delicious and filling.

Recently, I had to go on a candida diet to balance out my gut, and hopefully help with my allergies. I eat mostly vegetarian with the occasional fish, so finding recipes that fit the diet was a little tricky. I hope these candida diet recipes help you find some things to eat while you are on your journey.

What is the Candida Diet?

The candida diet is a way of eating to reduce the amount of candida in your body. If you know or suspect that you have a candida overgrowth, cutting out certain foods like sugar and adding in other gut-healthy foods can help reduce it.

The diet has some general rules, but depending on where you look it may differ slightly. The best way to know what you should and shouldn’t be eating is to talk to a doctor. They can help you figure out how severe the overgrowth is and what your next steps should be.

Some doctors choose to give some type of medication and vitamins to help you during this process as well.

Most of the recipes I share below can be tweaked slightly to fit the diet you need. I made notes next to each recipe on things you may need to change.

What can’t you eat on the Candida diet?

I have looked up a lot of different candida diets and they all suggest a little something different. There is some main consensus on the foods you should avoid. The main things NOT to eat are:

  • Sugar
  • Dairy
  • Alcohol
  • Refined Grains

Beyond that, some diets go as far as to say no beans, fruit, starchy vegetables, mushrooms, rice, and more. Depending on your preferences, some of these recipes may include these items so double check and make sure they work for you. Check with your doctor to see what in particular you should be avoiding.

What can you eat on the Candida diet?

To make it easier to create candida diet meals try to focus on the things you can eat instead of what to avoid. As for the foods you CAN eat, here is a good starting point:

  • Non-starchy vegetables (asparagus, cauliflower, broccoli, peppers, greens, etc.)
  • Quinoa
  • Fish and Meat
  • Eggs
  • Nuts and Seeds
  • Oats

Candida Diet Substitutes to Make

For a candida-free diet, you may need to swap out some of your everyday foods with alternatives. Once you know some of the easy swaps it will make your candida diet journey much simpler.

If you are not eating rice, substitute cauliflower rice. Here is a recipe on how to make it: Cauliflower Rice. You can also substitute quinoa.

For pasta dishes, make sure to use gluten-free pasta. One of my favorites is the Jovial Foods brown rice pasta.

If recipes have additional sugar in sauces or dressing, I just remove the sugar from the recipe. They still taste delicious!
